Review Face
your Underground (Belgium) : In a glow of Crimson Red
It has been a while since the first time I heard the band Soulsteeler.
Therefor I recall a gig at JH Den Auwel. It were the times great
bands
such as The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Ruffians and Battleroar hit
the
local stage. On one of those gigs I bought their demo called "Victims
Of Power". Until now, I still think this is one of the best
heavy
metal demo's from a Belgian band up to date.
Nowadays only three members of the 2004 line-up remain. In the
summer
of 2006 drummer Luc went to play in Crusader and bassplayer Ken
switched Soulsteeler for Killer and Black Jack. Nevertheless the
others decided to go on and welcomed Sus Kaethoven (bass) and
Bart
Jansen (drums). A year later the band recorded this record and
presented it in February 2008.
Again, the music of the band sounds better then the average, although
some musical changes has been made. The sound evolved and has
a more
progressive touch with a more prominent role for the keys. Luckely
this doesn't disturb the joy of listening to the songs. Listen
to
"Break Down The Walls" and you can immediately judge
for yourself. The
only weaker point is the fact that the vocals doesn't sound to
secure
in this mix. I thought this wasn't a problem when they played
live, so
I hope this didn't change.
All in all Soulsteeler created a fine mini-cd which should bring
the
band some nice gigs again.
